Bunny Inspired Child’s Room

The inspiration for this room may have been Beatrix Potter’s “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, but this is certainly much more refined and comfortable than any briar patch!  Where once there was a large room with a small bed and disconnected colors, furniture and patterns, we now see a small girl’s room that delights the eye and her fancy.  Every detail has been considered, from the coordination of the handmade bunnies wearing clothes that match the fabric used in the bedding and draperies, to the hand-painted mural depicting the fields in which the bunnies “live”, this bedroom and bath are now a cohesive child’s space where she can imagine herself into any story!

Elements/challenges of existing space design include:

  1. A mish/mash of colors, textures and patterns, making the bedroom and bathroom feel choppy and disconnected
  2. The scale of the furniture was overwhelmed by the size of the room
  3. Installing a much larger, adult-sized bed, while still keeping the room itself exciting for a child
  4. Enhancing the bunny theme in a big way

Solutions:

  • The walls were painted one soft, girlishly pink color, to provide a nice backdrop for the bunnies, trees, grass and fence to be hand-painted over it
  • Fabric patterns and bedding were designed and coordinated to underscore the girly softness of the room
  • The bunnys themselves were handmade and their bunny “clothing” was created out of fabric from the bedding and draperies to complete the bunny theme and tie them to the rest of the room
